Easily Duplicate Settings Catalog Policy In Intune

In this article, we’ll show you how to duplicate settings catalog policy in Intune. Duplicating a policy generates a new policy with the same settings and values as the original policy, except that assignments are not copied.

Starting in Intune Service Release 2111, a new feature has been added that allows you to duplicate settings catalog policies with just a few clicks. This means you will not have to start from scratch when creating a device configuration profile, which should save a substantial amount of time.

When you duplicate a device configuration profile in Intune, the duplicate policy will inherit the configuration settings and scope tags from the original profile. The assignments are not copied because you can edit the configuration settings for this new policy and then assign it to a different group.

By definition, the Settings catalog in Intune contains a comprehensive list of all the settings that can be customized. This feature simplifies how you create a policy, configure the settings and assign it to endpoints. The Intune Settings Catalog is frequently updated, and Microsoft adds new settings with almost every new release.

What happens when you duplicate a Settings Catalog Policy in Intune?

When you duplicate a settings catalog policy in Intune, it creates a copy of an existing settings catalog profile. Duplicating a settings catalog policy is useful when you need a profile that’s similar yet distinct from the original one. This is useful when you want to target an existing device configuration profile to a group with minor changes.

A duplicated catalog profile copy has the same setting configurations and scope tags as the original profile, but no assignments are associated with it. The duplicated profile can then be renamed and edited to change its settings and add assignments.

You should not use the duplicate feature if you are creating a new device configuration profile with settings that are entirely different from those defined in existing profiles.

Assignments will not be copied.”

A notification appears in the top-right corner of the Intune admin center, “Policy created successfully,” indicating that you have successfully duplicated the settings catalog policy.

  1. is there a way to do this for Adminstrative templates? non setting catalogue profiles maybe using Graph?

    1. You can export them using Graph. But the duplicate option is available only for the profile type: Settings Catalog.

Not all policies can be duplicated, only those for profile type: Service Catalog. I that so?

    Thanks

This doesn’t work. The only option I have is Delete. I notice the “Duplicate Policy” window is marked “Preview”. Is it possible I don’t have access to this feature? If so how can I access it?

    1. The duplicate policy feature is not in preview anymore. Can you confirm the Intune service release?.

      1. I also don’t have that option. Service release 2202.

You’re probably trying to duplicate a configuration profile – you can only duplicate “Settings Catalog” type ones
