Step By Step Installation Of Lync Server 2013 Standard Edition – Lab Setup.
Installation Of Lync Server 2013
Installation Of Lync Server 2013 In this post i will be providing the information on the lab setup used for Installation of Lync Server 2013 Standard Edition. The Domain name for this lab is PRAJWAL.LOCAL. If you are setting up a lab, choose your own domain name. The DNS server is installed on the same machine where Active Directory Domain Services are running. Microsoft Lync Server 2013 communications software offers instant messaging (IM), presence, conferencing, and telephony solutions that can support enterprise-level collaboration requirements. Lync Server 2013 and its client software, such as Lync 2013, enable your users to connect in new ways and to stay connected, regardless of their physical location. Lync and Lync Server bring together the different ways that people communicate in a single client interface, are deployed as a unified platform, and are administered through a single management infrastructure.
How it works

Lync Across Devices

Lync lets you reach your vision of unified communications – on your timeline following your blueprint.
Lab Setup:
Note that we will be setting up 2 Front End servers in this lab.
User Accounts:- I have created a user account named “lyncadmin” and the user account is the member of domain admins group. This account will be used to install and configure Lync 2013 throughout the lab. A domain user named “James Bond” is created and this user account will be used to login to the client machine as well as lync client.
check if there are errors in event log ?
there are no error on application and system event logs but i found lot errors on administration level event logs like 7001 event type
hi prajwal i don’t find any log for application and system level but i have lot error on administration level event log like 7001
Hey Prajwal i have installed FE in separate PC and install ADDS tools in it to access schema and logged in with user which is member of schema admin group.
but after reboot in FE ADDS service is not starting and i have checked that Domain controller is reachable from that server using netdom query.
would you suggest troubleshooting steps to start ADDS service on FE?
Click on View logs and check what exactly is the error message. You can paste the log file in the comment section too. Let me know what is the error.
Hi sir, I am trying to install the Lync server 2013. In that i installed all the pre requisites but while i am attempting to publishing the topology we are getting an error that “enabling topology failure” there we got error and we can’t move forward. Any help regarding this will be very helpful for us?
Thanks
Hi Prajwal thank you for your support. I’m currently trying to install lync server 2013 in a production environment? I have two Server 2012 running. Server one is my primary Domain Controller and server two is my Lync Server 2013? The problem is on server two? I kept getting the “Domain Controller” error message saying I cannot install Lync Server 2013 on a Domain Controller? The problem is you have to have Domain Controller with AD in order to install Lync Server 2013? Correct? You mention to install the Front End on a different server in order to resolve this? How do I install Front End only? Is there a separate component for this in Lync Server 2013. Or how do I install just the AD component only on my server two so that my Lync Server 2013 can install without this Domain Controller? Any help will be very appreciate?
Hi Paul, Microsoft does not recommend installing Lync server 2010/2013 on a server running AD domain services.
Can you check if the server 2 is running AD services or is it a child domain controller.. Ideally you shouldn’t get that message it its not a domain controller.
Installing the Lync (Front end server) is shown in this post :- https://www.prajwaldesai.com/step-by-step-installation-of-lync-server-2013-standard-edition-part-3-installing-lync-server-2013/
thank you so much for the info. I will check to make sure that the second server is not running AD service. Yes my second server is the child domain. I thought that will fixed the domain issue, I guess you are right, I will make sure the AD service is not running on my second server.. thx
@Paul – You can dedicate one server for Front end server..
i ahve been working on MS-LYNC 2010 Server and this is really helpful.
Thanks so much for sharing the info, wishinf you luck all ahead.
Hi Mr.PRajwalI first of all thanks for the information you have created for us God bless you i have one question kinldy tell me, why you have choosen two front end server?? for microsoft lync standard edition Tutorial you can go by one Front-End server also.
and why we call FrontEnd??
The second front end server is for backup resiliency feature where in if the first front end server goes down, the users will be moved to a pool on the second server. You can start with single front end server also.
The reason why its called Front end server because most of the Lync services run on the front end server and all the clients communicating internally hit front end server.
Thank you Rajeesh, I have corrected the link.
