Configuration Manager 2010 Generally Available

The Configuration Manager 2010 is generally available. The update 2010 for Configuration Manager current branch is now available as an in-console update. You can apply this update on sites that run version 1906 or later.

So this means that you don’t need to run the SCCM Enable Early Update Ring 2010 script anymore. The update 2010 should appear in your SCCM console.

Configuration Manager 2010 comes with lots of new features and improvements over previous release. To read about all the new features, check the Microsoft ConfigMgr 2010 documentation.

If you are planning to upgrade to version 2010, refer this SCCM 2010 upgrade guide. And don’t worry about the hotfixes, you may skip them and directly upgrade to version 2010.

I saw this announcement about the Configuration Manager 2010 generally available made on Twitter by David James.

The SCCM 2010 is globally available for all customers to install. So you can now get the MEMCM 2010 update without running any opt-in script. Finally good news for slow ring customers !!.

This is the right time to upgrade to 2010 however some organizations have already announced change freeze period. If you are allowed to perform the ConfigMgr 2010 upgrade, then go ahead.

ConfigMgr 2010 Upgrade

As I mentioned before the ConfigMgr Update 2010 is available as an in-console update. Sites running SCCM 1906 and above are eligible for the 2010 upgrade.

I always recommend running the prerequisite check before installing the major ConfigMgr update.

To install the Configuration Manager 2010 update using SCCM console :-

  • Launch the SCCM console.
  • Go to Administration > Overview > Updates and Servicing.
  • On the top ribbon, click Check for Updates.
  • Monitor dmpdownloader.log file for update 2010 download.
  • Once the update 2010 is available in the console, you can install the update.
