How to add HTA Support for SCCM MDT Boot Image

In this short post we will see how to add HTA support for SCCM MDT boot image. For me deploying operating system using configuration manager is fun. On other side it’s really challenging but at the end it’s so good to see a computer imaged perfectly. Recently I have been working on deploying windows 10 using SCCM. So something that i wanted to add to the task sequence is HTA. HTA’s (HTML Applications) are a way to wrap your scripts and present a clean GUI to the user. More information about HTA is found here. There are multiple ways to enabled HTA support for boot image. Though the old way of adding HTA support is using DISM. Previously I have used HTA for say setting up the workstation name, validate the workstation name, set the time zone etc.

The steps shown in this post is applicable to default boot images as well. In this post I am adding HTA support for MDT boot image. In other words I have installed MDT and this is integrated with SCCM.

To add HTA support for SCCM MDT boot image, launch the Configuration Manager console. Click on Software Library, Overview, Operation Systems, Boot Images. From the list od boot images select the boot image, right click boot image and click on Properties.

Under your boot image properties, click on Optional Components tab. To add new component, click on yellow color star icon.

In the Select optional components window, select HTML (WinPE-HTA). Click OK. The HTA component is now added to the boot image.

Click Yes to update the boot images to distribution points. If you want to update the boot images later click No. However to update boot images later, right click on boot image and click Update Distribution Points.
