SCCM 2103 Hotfix KB10036164 Cloud Attach Settings
Microsoft released SCCM 2103 hotfix KB10036164 recently and users are noticing cloud attach settings while installing the hotfix rollup. In this post I will show you how to skip the cloud attach settings and proceed with hotfix installation.
The SCCM 2103 hotfix KB10036164 includes two hotfixes – KB9603111 and KB9833643. In addition to that the KB10036164 contains many fixes and improvements. If you are planning to install the KB10036164 hotfix, you can refer my ConfigMgr 2103 hotfix rollup KB10036164 installation guide.
I believe the cloud attach screen also showed up while installing the previous SCCM hotfixes. I vaguely remember someone asking me that do I need to sign in and perform cloud attach. Users were really unhappy with this and most of them were stuck installing the hotfix.
If you have already enabled the cloud attach for your SCCM, you will not see the cloud attach window during the hotfix installation.
Some organizations still use only Configuration Manager to manage their devices. They don’t use Intune, and they prefer not to configure cloud attach settings. Moreover, to enable the cloud attach you need to sign in to Microsoft Endpoint Manager with your Microsoft organizational account.
I remember I came across the same cloud attach settings while installing ConfigMgr technical preview 2103. The wizard did not allow me to proceed without specifying the cloud attach settings.
When I contacted Microsoft support team, I got this response. If you opt out of cloud attach during the Updates Wizard, you still need to sign in on the Cloud attach page. It doesn’t enable cloud attach features if you don’t select them, but you can’t continue the wizard unless you authenticate.
The above notes are also part of technical preview 2103 documentation. Since I had to install technical preview in my lab, I went ahead and signed in with an account and configured the cloud attach settings. Only then I could install the update.
SCCM 2103 Hotfix KB10036164 Cloud Attach Settings
If you are installing hotfix KB10036164 in your SCCM 2103 setup and if you haven’t enabled cloud attach, you don’t have to do it. Meaning, the cloud attach settings are part of the SCCM hotfix KB10036164 installation however it is not mandatory to perform cloud attach.
When you install the SCCM 2103 hotfix KB10036164, the Cloud attach settings appear on the screen. However, with those checkboxes ticked, the wizard won’t go further. So, the solution here is to skip the cloud attach settings by unchecking all the boxes and then install the hotfix.
To make it easier, on the cloud attach settings window, uncheck enable Microsoft Endpoint Manager admin center. Also uncheck Enable automatic client enrollment for co-management. After you make these changes, click Next and you can proceed with installing the hotfix.
If you haven’t enabled the tenant attach yet, you can do so by referring to the Enable Tenant Attach in ConfigMgr guide. A proper planning is required before you enable and configure the tenant attach in SCCM.
Thank you for this, I was frustrated that you were asking for cloud credentials and I very much wanted to keep my 2103 install current.
Nevertheless, I continue to have an ongoing problem that if anyone knows about I would appreciate the help as to why my Windows 10 servicing is now empty since I installed version 2103???
